Philippine casino resort Okada Manila says it was the first private-sector entity to take part in the country’s “4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2025”.
The venue said the large-scale exercise simulated a magnitude 8.3 earthquake generated by the Manila Trench, followed by a tsunami alert, “testing the coordination and agility of Okada Manila’s emergency response teams across multiple operational areas”.
Okada Manila said its participation “aligned with Okada Green Heart’s Talent and Community pillar,” and “reinforces the resort’s commitment to nurturing capable, safety-conscious team members and strengthening partnerships that benefit the wider community”.
The exercise, on November 6, was in observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day, said Okada Manila in a recent press release.
The drill took place in collaboration with the Office of Civil Defense – National Capital Region (OCD-NCR), and Parañaque City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), stated the update.
The property’s promoter said: “Okada Manila team members and security team swiftly carried out evacuation procedures, established command posts, emergency communication system activation and managed simulated medical and fire response with precision and professionalism.”
Patrick Henry Villacorte, chief security and safety officer at Okada Manila, was cited as saying: “Every drill helps us strengthen our coordination, refine our response, and most importantly, ensure the safety of our team members and guests.”
