The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), the nation’s casino regulator-cum-operator, delivered on Wednesday five patient-transport vehicles to entities including local government units.
“Each patient-transport vehicle we turn over is a step closer to making vital medical services more accessible to every Filipino,” said Pagcor’s chairman and chief executive Alejandro Tengco, as cited in a press release.
The “donation aims to strengthen the medical and disaster-response capabilities of local government units, public institutions, and security forces,” stated the agency.
The latest recipients included the municipality of Benito Soliven in Isabela; San Pedro City in Laguna; the Polytechnic University of the Philippines; Ospital ng Parañaque, a government-run healthcare facility; and the Joint Task Force Unit Ilocos headquarters.
The announcement quoted San Pablo City’s mayor, Art Mercado, as saying that the vehicle would significantly enhance the city’s emergency response, particularly for low-income communities.
“It’s a lifeline that will help us save more lives,” stated mayor Mercado.
Since February, Pagcor says it has donated 35 patient-transport vehicles to local government units, hospitals, and frontline agencies, in order “to help ensure timely and safe medical transport across the country”.
