The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), the country’s gaming regulator, has been named among the nation’s top-three performers by the Governance Commission for Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporations (GOCCs).

The accolade was announced on Monday, at the latter’s Performance Evaluation Awards for work done in 2024. Pagcor’s 2024 performance rating was assessed at 99.92 points.

Pagcor also received a ‘Sustainability Award’ for its “exemplary efforts in upholding sustainability values and best practices in corporate governance” said the regulator in a Thursday press release.

Pagcor executives led by Wilma Eisma, president and chief operating officer, attended the ceremony for the awards.

Alejandro Tengco, Pagcor chairman and chief executive was quoted as stating in the Thursday release: “Our strong 2024 Performance Evaluation scorecard rating and the Sustainability Award highlight not just operational excellence but also our commitment to transparency, good governance, and nation-building.”

Last week, Mr Tengco said his agency was helping the domestic online gaming sector in “transitioning to stronger and safer practices” in terms of consumer safeguards.

In first place for the recently-announced Performance Evaluation Awards for government-owned or -controlled corporations, was the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, with 100.63 points.

The body is the principal government agency for raising and providing funds for health programmes, medical assistance and services, and charities with national scope.
