Resorts World Sentosa retail zone enlarged and rebranded as WEAVE open to public from Tuesday

An enlarged and revamped retail area at Singapore’s casino complex Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) freshly-branded as “WEAVE” (pictured in an artist’s rendering), began opening on Tuesday, with several food and drink outlets in operation. That is according to an update that day from the property.

The food and drink venues said to have opened include Middle Eastern street food brand WeWa; Chinese brewed-tea chain CHAGEE; and Taiwan restaurant brand Din Tai Fung.

Lam Xue Ying, vice president of Singapore Oceanarium and Destination Experience for Resorts World Sentosa, was cited in a Tuesday press statement as saying – referring to a second phase of the property’s development, known as ‘RWS 2.0’ – “WEAVE represents a pivotal milestone in our RWS 2.0 transformation journey.”

Resorts World Sentosa, run and promoted by Genting Singapore Ltd, is one half of the city-state’s casino duopoly.

WEAVE is said to span over 20,000 square metres (215,278 sq. feet) and is due to house “over 40 lifestyle and premium brands” across three levels, according to previous corporate materials. The facility is said to be “twice the size” of the old retail area, which had been known as The Forum.

Sportswear and fashion brands scheduled for the site include Adidas; Coach; Birkenstock; and Singapore childrenswear brand Le Petit Society.

Other food and drink brands to be housed there include: Pierre Hermé Paris; Peking Chamber; Chatterbox; Xing Yue Xuan and Standard Bread, according to information on Resorts World Sentosa’s website.

Genting Singapore Ltd, which runs Resorts World Sentosa, has said that it will launch new attractions at the casino resort complex in the second half of this year, as part of RWS 2.0. The company’s board has approved a total investment of about SGD6.80 billion (US$5.3 billion) to upgrade and expand the casino complex.

The group launched in February a new themed zone, “Illumination’s Minion Land” at the Universal Studios Singapore theme park, one of Resorts World Sentosa’s main non-gaming attractions.

Singapore Oceanarium – an expansion and rebranding from the former S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa – will be open to the public on July 23, according to previous announcements.

Resorts World Sentosa is scheduled to launch a 183-room The Laurus hotel, part of The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts stable, in the third quarter of this year.
