Macau casino concessionaire Sands China Ltd has donated MOP300,000 (US$37,383) to Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop, which the company said marked “the 13th consecutive year of the initiative”.
The effort provides support for the charitable organisation’s operating expenses, stated the casino firm in a Tuesday press release.
Additionally, about 40 Sands Cares Ambassadors volunteered at Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop on Saturday, “to help distribute more than 370 Chinese New Year food hampers to disadvantaged families” helped by the shop.
In operation since 2013, the Welfare Shop distributes each month food and essentials to thousands of families facing financial difficulties, assisting households in disadvantaged neighbourhoods to meet their living expenses.
The announcement cited Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, executive vice chairman of Sands China, as saying: “It is our privilege to work with Macau Holy House of Mercy for 13 consecutive years to support their meaningful food hamper initiative. As a member of the Macau community, it is Sands China’s honour to extend its care and support to the community, especially to society’s vulnerable.”
Mr Wong presented Sands China’s donation cheque to António José de Freitas, president of Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Board of Trustees.
Sands China said its support to Macau Holy House of Mercy “is part of the company’s commitment toward social causes and community involvement through the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme”.
