Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd led this month a 38-member delegation to Lisbon, Portugal, for a five-day “Macao Technological Innovation Exploration in Lisbon”.
The initiative, from November 10 to 14, was co-organised by Macau’s Economic and Technological Development Bureau, supported by the city’s Science and Technology Development Fund, and coordinated by the Sands Resorts Incubation Centre, stated the firm in a press release.
As per the update, the delegation comprised representatives from 25 local enterprises and from the organising entities.
“The initiative aims to foster industry exchange between Macau and Portugal, enabling local tech entrepreneurs to gain deeper insights into the latest developments and trends in the technology sector, and to promote the long-term growth of Macau’s technological innovation industry,” noted Sands China.
The announcement quoted Grant Chum, chief executive and executive director of Sands China, as saying that the company was organising the activity for a second straight year in a bid to “support the ‘1+4’ development plan for the economic diversification” of Macau, as well as “the development of Macau’s technology industries, and the nurturing of local talent and enterprises”.
In two years, a total of “42 local enterprises” has been invited to Portugal, observed Mr Chum.
He added: “It is our hope that this initiative can help connect Macau’s technology industry with Portugal’s innovation ecosystem, create networking opportunities between companies in Macau and Portugal, and strengthen the platform for exchange and cooperation between Macau’s technology industry and Sands China, in support of the Macau SAR [Special Administrative Region] government’s policy direction to enhance China-Portugal technological cooperation.”
