Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) have renewed several joint marketing initiatives aimed at boosting air passenger volume to Singapore from neigbouring Malaysia. The information was in respective updates from the two entities.
The work includes promoting Singapore tourism attractions including Gardens by the Bay; the Singapore Flyer; Resorts World Sentosa’s S.E.A. Aquarium and Universal Studios Singapore; Mandai Wildlife Reserve’s Parks, and the Museum of Ice Cream, the pair said.
Malaysia Aviation Group includes Malaysia Airlines and budget carrier Firefly.
In a Monday release, Malaysia Aviation Group said to celebrate “the third year” of its partnership with Singapore’s tourism authority, both organisations would introduce “enhanced travel benefits” for the airline group’s customers, including “boarding pass privileges” in Singapore.
The marketing initiatives would be “strategically timed” to “capitalise on peak travel periods”, including “year-end holidays, school breaks, and festive seasons”, Malaysia Aviation Group noted.
The entity also mentioned Firefly’s expansion of its jet operations via Kuala Lumpur’s secondary airport at Subang. This wouid see the launch of direct flights to Singapore Changi Airport beginning on March 25. The aviation group said the move would “provide more travel options for both business and leisure travellers”.
In a Tuesday post on social media platform LinkedIn, Singapore Tourism Board said the duo had signed a two-year memorandum of understanding.
Malaysia was last year ranked fourth as a tourism source market for Singapore.
In 2024, the city-state received 1.19 million Malaysian visitors, around 7.2 percent of the aggregate 16.53 visitor arrivals, according to the tourism board’s statistics. China was top feeder market, with 3.08 million visitor arrivals; Indonesia was second with 2.49 million; and India was in third spot, supplying 1.2 million visitor arrivals.
Singapore has a casino duopoly consisting of Resorts World Sentosa, run by Genting Singapore Ltd, and Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd, run by a unit of Las Vegas Sands Corp.
Both integrated resorts have been named by the Singapore Tourism Board as part of the country’s roster of visitor attractions.
In a February 4 release this year, the tourism board stated that for 2024, the Asia premiere of the ‘Harry Potter: Visions of Magic’ exhibition at Resorts World Sentosa; and the first official Studio Ghibli exhibition in Singapore, the ‘World of Studio Ghibli’, at Marina Bay Sands’ ArtScience Museum, had been among the country’s fresh tourism attractions.
