SJM Resorts Ltd, the Macau operations unit of Hong Kong-listed casino firm SJM Holdings Ltd, says it debuted on Saturday a new “residency show” at its Grand Lisboa Palace property in Macau’s Cotai district.

“The Adventures of ALICE @ Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau” was created in collaboration with Septime Webre, artistic director of the Hong Kong Ballet, a classical ballet company founded in 1979 in the neighbouring city, stated SJM Resorts in a Saturday press release.

“Specially choreographed and directed by Webre, the production features a lively new score by composer Ng Cheuk-yin, striking costumes designed by Liz Vandal of Cirque du Soleil fame, ingenious stage effects”, and intensive audience engagement, stated the firm.

SJM Resorts said it conducted multiple auditions for the residency show earlier this year.

The spectacle is performed by an ensemble of Hong Kong Ballet dancers, alongside performers from Macau and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

“Today, two opening-day performances welcomed members of Macau’s arts community, ballet professionals, and dance enthusiasts for a first look at this imaginative visual spectacle,” said the company in Saturday’s announcement.

The production takes place on a 360-degree stage at the Atrium, on Level 1 of Grand Lisboa Palace, with performances to take place on weekends and public holidays.

The first run in the series – in April and May – includes two performances on each of eight selected days, all open for the public to enjoy.

The update cited Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, managing director of SJM Resorts, as saying: “This new residency venue offers a valuable stage for local performers while fostering exchanges with leading international production teams, raising the calibre of local talents and reinforcing Macau’s positioning as a ‘City of Performing Arts’.”
