Lei Seak Chio, a Macau veteran labour affairs official, has been named a deputy director of the city’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, a body also known as DICJ. Mr Lei’s one-year appointment is due to start from February 10.

That is according to a government dispatch published on Monday and signed by the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Tai Kin Ip.

Mr Lei (pictured in a file photo) was most recently the chief of the occupational safety and health department at Macau’s Labour Affairs Bureau, a position that he had held since 2023. He had held a number of posts within that bureau since 2005.

Mr Lei has been named a DICJ deputy director to fill a “vacancy” at the gaming regulator, and due to his “professional competence and aptitude” for the role, according to the official dispatch.

The government is yet to announce a new director for DICJ. Its former director Adriano Marques Ho assumed on December 20 a new role as the director-general of the Macau Customs Service.

Last month, Lio Chi Chong, a deputy director of the casino regulator, was named acting director of the body.
