Resorts World Sentosa, a casino resort complex in Singapore, is to launch The Laurus hotel, to be part of The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts stable. That is according to a press release on Monday from Resorts World Sentosa, a property run by Genting Singapore Ltd.
Named after laurel leaves, the new hotel at Resorts World Sentosa will feature 183 suites, courtyard spaces and a “function room for intimate events and ceremonies,” said the promoter.
Bookings for The Laurus (pictured in a rendering) will launch in May, with the hotel set to open in the third quarter of this year.
The Luxury Collection brand, part of hospitality group Marriott International Inc, is described as an ensemble of more than 120 hotels in over 40 countries and territories, and has roots dating back to 1906.
“Crafted in collaboration with Marriott International, The Laurus embodies distinguished luxury and superior hospitality as Singapore’s first The Luxury Collection branded property,” stated Resorts World Sentosa in its Monday update.
Tan Hee Teck, chief executive of Resorts World Sentosa, said in prepared remarks: “Our landmark collaboration with Marriott International to bring the very first The Luxury Collection branded property to Singapore further exemplifies our commitment to redefine luxury guest experiences.”
He added: “The Laurus, a Luxury Collection resort, embodies the very essence of our ongoing pivot to offer curated destination experiences as part of Resorts World Sentosa’s transformational expansion plans.”
The announcement cited Rajeev Menon, president, Asia Pacific excluding China, at Marriott International, as saying: “Marriott International is pleased to collaborate with Resorts World Sentosa to introduce The Luxury Collection brand to Singapore.”
He added: “This milestone reflects our commitment in contributing to the evolving luxury landscape of this extraordinary island city.”
Genting Singapore has pledged to invest SGD6.80 billion (US$5.05 billion) to upgrade and expand Resorts World Sentosa, via a project known as ‘RWS 2.0’. Resorts World Sentosa is one of Singapore’s two casino resorts.
The group opened on February 14 a new themed zone, called “Illumination’s Minion Land”, at the Universal Studios Singapore theme park – the latter is one of Resorts World Sentosa’s main non-gaming attractions.
A revamped retail area, dubbed “WEAVE”, is scheduled to debut “in the second half of 2025”, according to the company, while the Singapore Oceanarium is set to launch in the third quarter of 2025.
In mid-November the company broke ground for a new waterfront development at the complex. The firm expects that expansion to be completed in 2030.
