Suntrust to take on minority role as it eyes agreement with Travellers group regarding completion of Manila complex

Suntrust Resort Holdings Inc, the developer of the LETX Resort, a casino hotel at Westside City in the Philippine capital Manila, plans to reach an agreement with some third parties in a bid to “expedite the completion” of what it described as the “now-expanded” Westside integrated resort project.

In a Monday filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Suntrust said its board of directors authorised the company to “pursue a strategic working agreement” with a number of companies, including Travellers International Hotel Group Inc.

The casino property being developed by Suntrust, dubbed LETX Resort (pictured in an artist’s rendering), uses the gaming licence of Travellers International, the latter a unit of Philippine conglomerate Alliance Global Group Inc.

Travellers International currently runs the Newport World Resorts casino complex in Manila.

Other parties to be involved in the “strategic working agreement” include Westside City Inc; Westside Bayshore Holding Corp; and Entertainment City Resorts Corp (ECRC).

Under such an agreement, Suntrust said it “will effectively hold 20 percent indirect interest” in ECRC.

“To ensure the timely construction, development, completion and operation of the Westside integrated resort project, ECRC will assume all rights and obligations related to the project,” stated Suntrust.

According to previous corporate information, the US$1.25-billion LETX Resort will have “over 300 gaming tables and over 1,300 electronic gaming machines for both the mass and VIP markets; over 450 five-star luxury hotel rooms and suites; a mall composed of food and beverage and retail units; and a parking facility with over 1,000 slots”.

In Monday’s filing, Suntrust said the complex would also include a theatre “envisioned to be the Broadway of the Philippines”.

“Among its offerings are ‘Artists Promenade’, the iconic ‘Grand Opera House’ and the ‘Apollo’, ‘Bohemia’ and ‘Crown’ theatres, all of which are dedicated to Philippine performing arts,” added the firm.

Suntrust, indirectly controlled by Hong Kong-based LET Group Holdings Ltd, has several times put back the completion date on the hotel casino scheme in Manila.

Based on the firm’s latest estimates, the opening of the main hotel casino is now “targeted for third quarter of 2026”.

A fortnight ago, Suntrust said there was no “material uncertainty” regarding the company’s operations.

The group incurred net losses from its operations in prior years, “which resulted in a deficit” of PHP4.76 billion (US$83.3 million) as of June 30, 2025.
