Global sports technology firm Sportradar Group AG has been granted a gaming-related vendor licence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the firm said in a Tuesday press release. The permit was awarded by the federal nation’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA).

“The licence, operational with immediate effect, affords Sportradar the opportunity to provide its products and services to licensed operators,” stated the company.

It added: “Sportradar looks forward to bringing its 20-plus year expertise and proprietary sports technology to operators and clients in the region.”

Sportradar Group AG, founded in 2001, describes itself as a global sports technology company, providing data and related services to sports federations, news media, consumer platforms and sports betting operators.

The firm is charting new ground in the online sector, making use of its proprietary slot games and data-platform capabilities to meet growing market demand, a company representative said in a recent interview with GGRAsia.

The GCGRA issued its first gaming-related vendor licence in October last year. So far, 16 companies have been awarded a gaming-related vendor licence in the country.

The GCGRA, established in September 2023, is the entity overseeing commercial gaming activities in the UAE. It is chaired by Jim Murren, a former chairman and chief executive of casino group MGM Resorts International.

According to the regulator’s website, so far there is only one licensed casino operator in the UAE. That is casino firm Wynn Resorts Ltd, which is developing with local partners the Wynn Al Marjan Island casino resort in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the emirates. The complex is due to launch in 2027.
