Philippine casino resort Okada Manila is to “unveil many of its key amenities and facilities on March 31” – Friday of this week – including hotel rooms, restaurants and shops, the venue said in a press release issued via its sponsor Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc.
The release did not clarify whether March 31 was the opening date for all the hotel facilities in phase one of the project. It did state that the resort had already accepted bookings at discounted rates for hotel stays covering the period March 31 to April 30.
Okada Manila, slated as a multi-phase US2.4-billion scheme, had a soft opening – referred to by the venue’s promoter as a “preview period” – on December 21, and officially launched its casino operations on December 30. A ‘grand opening’ of Okada Manila had been flagged by the scheme’s operator as likely to be at the “end of March”.
The update from Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment, a firm controlled by Japanese gaming entrepreneur Kazuo Okada, used the term ‘grand unveil’ to describe revealing to the public a large fountain at Okada Manila and the other mentioned facilities.
GGRAsia approached Okada Manila seeking clarification on Friday’s event, but had not received a reply by the time this story went online.
Okada Manila is said to have space for up to 500 gaming tables and 3,000 electronic gaming machines, according to the scheme’s promoter. The project also includes a two-wing hotel with 993 rooms.
On March 9, Mr Okada’s Tokyo-listed firm Universal Entertainment Corp announced two exercises for disposal of the latter’s treasury shares, with the aim of raising more than JPY23 billion (US$199 million), to be spent on the Okada Manila project.
