The Poker King Club brand is again linking in Asia with the World Poker Tour (WPT), this time to hold a WPT Korea event on Jeju Island in South Korea. The tournament will offer a KRW200-million (US$175,300) main-event guaranteed prize pool.

The competition will be held from September 24 to 30 at the Paradise Casino Jeju Grand, a foreigner-only casino venue operated under South Korean gaming group Paradise Co Ltd according to the latter’s English-language website.

Kings Consulting – a unit of Macau VIP junket room investor Suncity Group – is the owner of the Poker King Club brand.

Winfred Yu, chief executive of Poker King Club, said in a prepared statement issued to announce the Jeju tournament: “The group has been working to further extend its reach to players in northern China as well as Japan, as we feel these events in [South] Korea are perfect for attracting those audiences.”

He added: “Working in conjunction with a globally-renowned brand such as WPT only strengthens the value to players who attend the events.”

Day one of the WPT Korea will also feature the Suncity Cup, Poker King Club’s own tournament series which is being staged at venues across Asia. The final of the Suncity Cup, with a guaranteed prize pool of HKD8 million (US$1.02 million) is to be held in November in Macau, according to Wednesday’s press statement.

On Tuesday the Asian Poker Tour (APT) launched its APT Korea Incheon 2017 tournament at Paradise Co’s recently-opened Paradise City casino resort near Incheon, South Korea. It has a KRW1.1-million main event.
