The latest statistics of the manpower needs and wages of Macau’s gaming sector indicate that average earnings – excluding bonuses – of full-time employees – as measured in June 2017 – amounted to MOP23,080 (US$2,863). That was a 4.6-percent rise in year-on-year terms and the highest amount since records began, according to data released on Tuesday by Macau’s Statistics and Census Service. The survey is conducted twice a year.
The number of full-time employees in the gaming sector totalled 55,726 in the second quarter of 2017, similar to that in the prior-year period.
The sector recorded a 1.3 percent decline in the number of dealers to 23,980 in the second quarter of 2017. Their monthly average earnings in June were reported to be MOP19,930, an increase of 5.1 percent in year-on-year terms.
The number of dealers in Macau continued to shrink despite the city’s consecutive casino gross gaming revenue growth since August 2016.
There were 923 job vacancies recorded in the gaming sector as of the end of the second quarter. That was 336 more than in the same period in 2016. The job vacancy rate as of June 30 was 1.6 percent, up 0.6 of a percentage-point in year-on-year terms. The employee turnover rate was also up – by 0.2 of a percentage-point – to 1.7 percent.
The sector hired 1,035 new employees in the second quarter – representing a 56.8-percent increase on the prior-year period. The statistics bureau said the data indicated a “rather stable” market for human resources in Macau’s gaming sector.
