The Statistics and Census Service had also reported on Friday that the total spending – excluding gaming expenses – of visitors to Macau in the first quarter of 2018 reached MOP16.42 billion (US$2.03 billion), up 22.0 percent year-on-year.

Macau recorded more than 8.55 million visitor arrivals in the first three months of 2018, an increase of 8.6 percent from the first quarter 2017, according to official data.

Travellers to Macau from mainland China remained the highest-spending visitors in the first quarter of 2018. Official data showed that the aggregate spending of all visitors from mainland China grew by 26.5 percent compared to the prior-year period. It totalled MOP13.47 billion in the first quarter, representing 82.1 percent of the total spending by all visitors to the city.
