Macau logged circa 725,000 visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland for this year’s Labour Day holidays, up around 6.9 percent year-on-year, according to Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
The 2026 holiday season for residents of the mainland – Macau’s most important source market for tourists – ran from May 1 to May 5 inclusive, the same dates as in 2025.
Mainlanders accounted for circa 83.0 percent of the 873,229 total visitor arrivals recorded for the latest festive season. That aggregate figure was up 2.7 percent year-on-year.
For Hong Kong – Macau’s second-biggest source market for tourists – only May 1 was a public holiday.
Hong Kong and international markets – places outside the Greater China region – showed year-on-year decline in arrivals to Macau, per MGTO data.
During this year’s Labour Day season, Macau recorded circa 94,000 arrivals from Hong Kong, down 15.3 percent from 2025’s approximately 111,000. Macau got around 42,000 visitors from international markets from May 1 to May 5, down 17.6 percent from last year’s tally of circa 51,000.
The average hotel occupancy rate of the city’s hotels during the May 1 to May 5 period this year was 92.7 percent, a level MGTO described as “similar” to the prior-year period, citing industry data.
The tourism office did not offer any information on the average hotel room rate relevant to the Labour Day holiday season.
