The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), the country’s gaming regulator, warned on Monday of a fraudulent website with ‘Pagcor’ in the title and with elements including logos that look like the real thing, but that is asking people to link to it to apply for gaming licences and accreditations.
The fake site – complete with a spelling mistake in the word “accreditation” – had remained online as of Monday afternoon.
The fraudulent website, with the domain name “www.pagcorphilippines.com”, had been put up on Saturday (February 22), said Pagcor in the Monday statement, citing its chairman and chief executive, Alejandro Tengco.
“We urge the public not to download anything or transact through the said fake website that uses the domain name www.pagcorphilippines.com because it is definitely not from Pagcor and all its contents are spurious,” said Mr Tengco in prepared remarks, as included in the Monday statement.
The official domain of Pagcor is www.pagcor.ph, the release noted.
The update also cited the Pagcor chairman as stating: “We have reported this incident to the Department of Information and Communications Technology. We are also working to identify the persons behind this fraud and we shall go after them with the full force and extent of the law.”
A forged signature purporting to be Mr Tengco’s was on ‘accreditation forms’ displayed on the fraudulent website, Pagcor’s Monday statement noted.
