SJM awarding pay rise for workers, effective from April 1

Macau casino operator SJM Resorts Ltd is awarding a salary increase for eligible staff members – in effect from April 1 this year – as a reward for their work done in 2025, separate sources told GGRAsia citing an internal memo.

Eligible employees with a monthly salary of MOP16,000 (US$1,992) or below will be awarded a pay rise of MOP500 – equivalent to an increase of at least 3.1 percent, according to the sources. Those earning a monthly salary above MOP16,000 are to receive a 2-percent salary hike.

GGRAsia has approached SJM Resorts for comment, but did not receive a reply by the time the story went online. The group runs casinos on Macau peninsula, as well as the Grand Lisboa Palace resort (pictured) in Cotai.

The company – the Macau gaming licence holder of Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd – had previously confirmed to GGRAsia that it would give a “special discretionary bonus”, equivalent to one month’s salary, to eligible staff as a reward for their work done in 2025. The bonus would be distributed on January 30.

All of Macau’s six casino operators have announced salary increases this year, with the increment typically at 2 percent for those earning above MOP16,000; and a pay hike ranging from circa 3 percent to 6 percent for those earning MOP16,000 or below, according to various announcements.

All six companies have also declared payment of some form of bonus for work done in 2025.
