Solaire opens new tower with extra VIP capacity

Bloomberry Resorts Corp has added 66 VIP gaming tables and 223 slot machines to its Solaire Resort and Casino (pictured) in Manila. The extra capacity is included in a new hotel tower that opened on the weekend of November 22 and 23.

The facility – known as the Sky Tower – also has 312 suites, a Chinese restaurant and a whisky and cigar bar for VIP customers.

Thomas Arasi, Bloomberry Resorts’ president and chief operating officer, described the new facility as a “game changer in providing best in class guest experience”.

The newly opened area also includes meeting rooms and a 1,760-seat theatre.

Bloomberry Resorts says it will add shops – to what it refers to as the Phase 1A expansion of Solaire – in stages next year, in partnership with local developer Ayala Land Inc.

Solaire’s market rival City of Dreams Manila – a casino resort also within the Philippine Gaming and Amusement Corp’s Entertainment City zone, and to be managed by a unit of Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd – is due to have a soft opening in December. That’s according to the parent’s co-chairman Lawrence Ho Yau Lung speaking during Melco Crown’s third quarter earning call on November 6

Bloomberry Resorts recorded a profit of PHP3.3 billion (US$73.5 million) in the first nine months of the year, compared to a P868 million loss reported a year ago. It attributed the improvement to stronger gaming revenues.

Solaire opened in March 2013.
