Casino developer and operator Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd on Monday announced a “one-month discretionary bonus” for its non-management staff. Melco Crown is the fourth operator of Macau casinos publicly to announce a bonus for staff this year.
“The bonus will be paid out before the Chinese New Year,” the casino operator said in a press release. The company did not specify how many workers were eligible for the payment, nor the aggregate amount involved.
Melco Crown, which opened its majority-owned Studio City (pictured) casino resort in October, said the bonus is a gesture of appreciation for its staff’s “hard work and devotion in the past year”.
The first Macau casino operator to publicly announce a bonus this year was SJM Holdings Ltd. The casino firm stated it would offer an annual bonus that is equivalent to two months of salary for employees earning up to MOP20,000 (US$2,486) per month, according to an internal notice to employees.
That was followed by announcements from Wynn Macau Ltd and from MGM China Holdings Ltd. Each company said it would pay a special bonus to non-management staff, equivalent to one month’s salary.
