Casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) in Macau’s mass-market segment expanded by 3.9 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2016, according to data released on Monday by the local regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

VIP baccarat casino GGR fell 1.2 percent year-on-year in the three months to September 30, according to the same data. VIP baccarat GGR in the July to September period was approximately MOP28.65 billion (US$3.59 billion) compared to MOP28.99 billion in the prior-year period.

Mass-market GGR (including slot machines) in the third quarter was MOP26.36 billion, compared to MOP25.38 billion in the prior-year period.

The market aggregate for all casino GGR in the third quarter 2016 had been reported on October 1 by the gaming bureau as standing at MOP55.0 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.2 percent. That represented the best quarterly performance the Macau market has seen since the second quarter 2014. In that quarter, casino GGR expanded by 5.5 percent year-on-year.

In the breakdown of third-quarter GGR, released on Monday by the bureau, VIP baccarat revenue as a proportion of all casino GGR  in the three months to September 30 stood at 52.1 percent.

Mass-market baccarat accounted for MOP19.47 billion, or 35.4 percent, of all casino GGR in the third quarter of 2016. In the same quarter of 2015, mass-market baccarat was MOP18.76 billion, representing 34.5 percent of all casino GGR.

In the third quarter this year, revenue from mass-market baccarat increased by 3.8 percent year-on-year, according to Monday’s data.

The number of live dealer tables in the Macau market rose 5.1 percent in the July to September period, to 6,304, compared to 5,998 in the prior-quarter period. The increase related to the arrival in the market of the Parisian Macao and Wynn Palace, two new Cotai properties that opened on September 13 and on August 22 respectively, and that are promoted respectively by Sands China Ltd and Wynn Macau Ltd.

Slot machine revenue in the three months to September 30 this year fell 3.4 percent to MOP2.84 billion, compared to MOP2.94 billion in the prior-year quarter.

The number of slot machines in the market during the third quarter of this year rose 15.1 percent to 15,769, compared to 13,706 in the previous quarter.

Casino GGR from live multi game – a category of electronic tables using a live dealer but electronic betting and bet settlement – rose 15.7 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2016, to MOP611 million, from MOP528 million in the prior-year period.
