Melco Resorts to pay bonus to non-management staff

Asian casino developer Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd announced on Thursday a bonus for its eligible non-management employees.

The company said a “one-month discretionary bonus” would be paid to “all eligible non-management employees before Chinese New Year”.

The company did not specify how many workers were eligible for the payment, nor the aggregate amount involved.

Melco Resorts operates three full-scale casino properties in Macau – City of Dreams Macau, Studio City (pictured) and Altira Macau – and City of Dreams Manila in the Philippines.

“Today’s announcement is in recognition of the dedication, loyalty and hard work of our non-management team, who are highly valued and integral to Melco Resorts’ every achievement,” said Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Melco Resorts chairman and chief executive, in a statement included in Thursday’s release.

Melco Resorts was the first of Macau’s six casino operators to publicly announce a bonus for staff this year. The city’s gaming operators traditionally announce the payment of bonus to staff – if any – in or around the Chinese New Year period, which this year falls on February 5. Some operators additionally announce a second round of bonuses – if any – around summer.

Profit at Melco Resorts plummeted 91.7 percent year-on-year in the third quarter, said the company in a November statement. Such profit was US$9.60 million, compared to nearly US$115.9 million in the prior-year period.
