Casino operator Genting Malaysia Bhd has started technical rehearsals for its long-awaited SkyWorlds outdoor theme park (pictured in October) at its Resorts World Genting property near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, reported on Monday the Edge Markets, citing a company spokesperson.
A number of brokerages had previously flagged the likelihood that the theme park will open before the end of the year. According to Monday’s media report, selected rides at the theme park have been opened to employees and some invited guests.
Maybank IB Research mentioned in a Sunday note that it expected Genting Malaysia’s financial-year 2022 earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation to rise by 475 percent year-on-year, “as Genting SkyWorlds theme park ramps up”.
Malaysia might admit “select international tourists soon”, due to the “high vaccination rate amongst locals,” and that should be a positive for Resorts World Genting, said a mid-October note from banking group Nomura.
On October 11, Malaysia’s government said it would permit resumption of previously-paused interstate domestic travel, as more than 90 percent of adults in the nation had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
Resorts World Genting – Malaysia’s only casino resort – reopened on September 30 a number of facilities to the public, including the Genting Casino.
The firm had announced on May 31 that the whole of the complex was to be shut temporarily, due to an uptick in Covid-19 infections in Malaysia.
